Sci_Art Kelowna
SCI_ART Kelowna 2025 brought together twelve artists, scientists, and researchers from eight countries — each with a distinct practice, a different set of questions, and a shared belief that art and science are stronger together.
From feminist biotechnology to mixed reality, from ecological glass to temporal imagination, the speakers at SCI_ART 2025 represent some of the most compelling interdisciplinary work happening toda. Below you'll find a full list of the speakers who participated with their brief biographies.Felix Lenz (Austria) is a research-driven artist and filmmaker based in Vienna. Their practice explores how systems of image-making and knowledge production shape the very environments they seek to describe. Works through installations, films, and cross-disciplinary strategies interweaving geopolitical, ecological, and technological analysis. Received the Outstanding Artist Award from the Austrian Ministry of Arts and Culture (2024); represented Austria at the 24th Triennale Milano International Exhibition (2025). Work held in the permanent collection of the Museum of Applied Arts Vienna.
Borut Jerman (Slovenia) is the President of the Association for Culture and Education PiNA. Leads the HEKA Art & Science Laboratory and produces the new media art festival IZIS. His work centres on developing HEKA as a platform for dialogue between society and science through art, bringing empathy, curiosity, and compassion into scientific research methodologies.
Fiona McDonald (Ireland) is a Dublin-based interdisciplinary artist bridging art, science, and technology. Holds a BSc in Biological Chemistry (University of Ulster), BA and MA in Fine Art (NCAD), and MSc in Multimedia Systems (Trinity College Dublin). Currently Artist in Residence at the RHA Gallery Studios; Arts Council of Ireland Project Award (2023). Visiting research assistant at CONNECT, Science Foundation Ireland (2016–2019).
Dr Teresa Almeida (Portugal) is an artist and researcher at the University of Porto, where she has taught since 2009. Her practice focuses on luminescent glass and enamels, ecological art, and collaborative projects between artists and scientists. Active member of the VICARTE Research Unit. Holds a Master's in Glass from the University of Sunderland and postgraduate certificates from Central Saint Martins, London. International recognition includes the Prémio Femina (2013).
Dr WhiteFeather Hunter (Canada) is an internationally recognised artist and researcher working at the intersections of feminist theory, biotechnology, and performance. PhD in Biological Art from SymbioticA, University of Western Australia. SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellow, Simon Fraser University. Recent project Sentient Clit — The Pussification of Biotech nominated for the Ars Electronica S+T+ARTS Prize (2024). Collaborates with leading biolabs including the Gulbenkian Institute of Molecular Medicine and the DZNE German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases.
Ruby Singh (Canada) is a multi-award-winning performer, composer, and producer based in Vancouver. Practice spans music, poetry, photography, and film. Lieutenant Governor's Jubilee Award for Excellence in Art and Music (2022), Juno Award nomination (2023), Western Canadian Music Award for Global Music Artist of the Year (2023), BC Touring Council Artist of the Year (2023). Projects include Polyphonic Garden, Jhalaak, Vox.infold, RupLoops, and The Future Ancestors.
